Sensitivity and the Emotional Roller-Coaster: A guide to understanding, accepting and balancing our Emotional Selves
Hello dear Sensitive Souls,
This week was a week of getting clear on being an 'Emotional Sensitive Soul' and coming to accept the fact that yes, being Sensitive pretty much ALWAYS means that you are an emotional being who will often experience emotional highs and lows (often at intense levels!).
In my recent Facebook post, I spoke of 'emotional pain' and how this is a daily reality for us Sensitive Souls. I will cover this topic in more detail in next week's blog while this week, I will speak of the emotional roller-coaster, an experience that is highly common for us Sensitive Souls.
Up until a month ago, I was ashamed to admit I was emotional. I was ashamed to admit my emotions fluctuate. Sometimes changing hourly. Sometimes changing every 5 minutes.
Up and down, round and round. That is how my days would go, and still do go, just to a lesser intensity.
Until recently I thought something was wrong with me, that I wasn't 'normal' and that I had to 'fix' this problem.
In the past I searched everywhere to find a solution to this 'problem'. Counsellors, Psychologists, Healers... you name it!
And although much of what I received during this time was helpful, what was never achieved up until recently, was an acceptance around the fact that yes...
I am a 'Highly Emotional Being.'
After having read a powerful article on this topic and also speaking to my business mentor about this, something dawned upon me...
Ok, so I'm emotional. Something I've ALWAYS been, something I've tried to push down, hide and fix. Something I've viewed as unacceptable, undesirable, and problematic.
However, looking a bit deeper, and from the perspective of who I am as a Sensitive Soul, and what it means to be Sensitive, I've finally realised that there's a REASON for all of this emotion. A REASON for being born this way...
And with this knowledge, a sense of peace, relief and acceptance has come over me.
You see, I've realised that being a Sensitive Soul, and being an Empath, we are consistently sensing, tuning in, and absorbing energies in our environment. This can be from nature, animals, people and technological sources.
When we are in the company of others, we are naturally tuning into THEIR experience, feeling THEIR feelings, thinking THEIR thoughts.
And if we are an Empath, we are also ABSORBING their emotions...
No wonder we are emotional!
Because half or more of these emotions are not ours!
Half the time we are tuning in, dealing with, and absorbing emotions on top of what we already have!
No wonder we shut down, run from things/people, want be alone and isolate ourselves...
However, in saying all of this, I've looked deeper, deconstructed, and realised that being emotional can actually be hugely advantageous to us Sensitive Souls, and even be considered a Superpower that we hold!
1. Emotions allow us to heal ourselves
Our deep, emotional, feeling connection to this World can be used to heal our Sensitive Souls. Where, if we put ourselves in a healthy environment (eg. in nature, with people who validate us) then we can deeply tune into these energies to restore, rejuvenate and rebalance ourselves and our emotional being.
2. Emotions enable us to heal others
By tuning in so deeply to other people, especially with the Empathy, Care and Compassion that us Sensitive Souls carry, this alone can have profound healing effects upon another person.
3. Emotions allow us to heal nature and its' animals
We FEEL when animals, nature or a human is wounded. We feel this deep within. When a part of nature (eg. an animal or tree) is wounded, they cannot speak up for themselves. This is where we can come in, feel into them, and actually BE THE VOICE for them! What an amazing role to play!
It is important to mention that before our Emotional Superpowers can be utilised, it is vital that a Sensitive Soul does the healing work on themselves to remove old, stagnant and negative emotions from their body. Not only does this rebalance our emotions and provide relief from emotional pain, but it clears our channels so we can be of healing service to this world.
