As per my recent Facebook post, I've noticed the theme of the week has been SPEAKING UP!
Do you have difficulty speaking up for yourself as a Sensitive Soul?
Speaking-up, whether it be speaking your truth, or speaking up for your own needs (also is your truth!), can be difficult, and seems to be one of those significant life lessons for many people.
For us Sensitive Souls, who have the ability to FEEL DEEPLY, when it comes to speaking up, we may feel the FEAR of speaking up at a more intense level than others, and therefore refrain from doing so, so as to avoid the highly uncomfortable feelings that come with it.
As also mentioned in my previous post, I ended up in hospital last week!
I am currently staying at the Hare Krishna Farm and also working there, which can involve some heavy duty activities that require a fair amount of physical strength.
Before my little accident, where paint splashed into my eye, (causing significant irritation, slight infection, followed by an eye irrigation in the hospital's emergency ward!), I had the feeling that the work I was about to do just wasn't going to be right for me.
In the lead up to the accident, I was performing some heavy farm tasks, which were triggering something in me to get upset, irritated and slightly angry. These feelings were getting stronger and stronger with each task leading up to the incident. But despite feeling this way, I soldiered on, and performed the heavy tasks that were being given to me, like a good little girl...
Yes a GIRL! The little girl within me wanted to be GOOD!
She wanted to PLEASE!
She wanted to be LIKED!
She wanted to be APPROVED of!
But if the ADULT in me had it her way, she would be listening to her gut, which was saying "This work is too heavy for you. Your sensitive body and smaller frame cannot take this kind of work. Take care of yourself, listen to your truth and stand up for your needs."
But did I acknowledge my needs? And speak up?
But I wish I DID...
I've had a good think about it ever since, and even asked a few people around me as to why, so often, we DON'T speak up for ourselves. And similar to what I've just stated above, here are some of the REASONS why:
1. To avoid conflict and avoid feeling FEAR.
2. To look good/capable/strong in front of others so that we are APPROVED of.
3. Not to be disliked by the person we are standing up to so as to BE LIKED.
4. So that others won't JUDGE us as stubborn, self-serving and selfish!
Oh this is so BORING! Isn't it??
Now here's my take on HOW we, as Sensitive Souls, can move through our fears:
1. Feel the fear and do it anyway.
2. Get to know who you are, and therefore, what your unique, individual needs are.
The may not like it! They may not like us! They may think we are trouble-makers, non-conformists. They may not want to work with us, employ us, be friends with us, or have a relationship with us.
BUT! If we are speaking our REAL truth, and they don't LIKE it, then it is obvious that we are not working with or for the RIGHT people/place, or having relationships with those who are RIGHT for us...
Because those places and people who ARE right for us, WILL respect us, and WANT to honour our needs.
And so it is.
